Does the last few days remind you of last year? I remember the horror of flooded houses and swollen rivers. My allotment was under half a metre of water and I had to throw away most of my salad and tomato crops. Fortunately it is not too bad this year. The tomatoes are swelling nicely but need some sun to ripen.
The flower borders in the garden look a little sad, all the rain has produced lots of growth but many of the flowers have been damaged by the heavy rain last week. Have bought some dahlias and lilies to fill in the gaps.

Hi Pat
The rain has brought the slugs out in huge numbers. ANy thoughts on how to control them without using pellets?

Hi Gareth
I find coarse grit sprinkled around vulnerable plants works quite well and it doesn't get washed away if it rains. Some people use beer traps but I think it is a waste of good beer! There are some new organic slug repellents in garden centres. I tried these but they were only partially successful and had to be reapplied after heavy rain
